Shillong to get India’s 1st centre of excellence in online gaming
The country's first center of excellence for online gaming will be set up in Shillong in the next two months. This center will help startups and entrepreneurs from the northeastern region to build the next generation of online gaming ecosystems. The ministry of electronics and information technology and skill development and entrepreneurship (MEITY) has announced that another initiative of the ministry is to set up a stateoftheart facility under the national institute of electronics and it nielit to provide training in cuttingedge digital skills in Shillong. The 10acre campus shall soon be ready for this purpose which shall cater to the skilling requirements of youth in the northeast region. The ministry of electronics and information technology and skill development and entrepreneurship (MEITY) has recently circulated draft amendments to the it rules 2021 in relation to online gaming for public consultation. The minister also highlighted the importance of digital skills post covid as the rate of digitalisation of products services and devices continues to increase across the globe. Imparting digital skills to the youth in the northeastern region to enable them to grab opportunities of jobs and entrepreneurship in the fastexpanding digital economy is an article of faith for the Narendra Modi government.
