Polio virus found is vaccine-derived: WB health dept

The state health department officials said the polio virus, which was found from a sewerage sample in Metiabruz, is a vaccine-derived polio virus (VDPV) and not the wild polio virus that spreads. Officials said such detection happens occasionally during routine surveillance procedure. Doctors said VDPV should not be a major concern. "This detection was done more than two months ago. Since then we are silently working out to find any case of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) in that locality. So far, we have found none. But our surveillance is on to rule out any possibility," said a state health official.
