Assam to celebrate Bhogali Bihu today

The state of Assam is preparing for the festival of Bhogali Bihu, which celebrates the end of the winter harvest. This year, the festival is expected to go off without any problems thanks to the presence of omicron, a variant of Covid19 that doesn't cause outbreaks of the virus like in previous years. People across the state are preparing delicacies like indigenous cakes called pithas, made from rice powder, coconut, sesame seeds, and jaggery. Another important part of the festival is the building of bhela ghars, which are depictions of different themes made out of bamboo, banana leaves, and thatch. Markets are flooded with pithas, ladu (a type of rice), and curd. The price of bora rice, a variety of rice used to prepare pithas, was being sold for Rs. 6070 per kg on Thursday, while sesame was being sold for Rs. 180200 per kg, and jaggery for Rs. 5080 per litre, and cream for Rs. 600. Places of worship like the Basistha Temple in Guwahati and Hayagriv Madhav Temple in Hajo are all set to host the rituals of Bhogali B
