Assam: Officers on safari break Pobitora Sanctuary rules
Assam: Officers on safari break Pobitora Sanctuary rules
Jeep safaris at the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary on the outskirts of the city on Monday moved Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma against some top bureaucrats including one from the Forest Department for allegedly smoking inside the sanctuary on Sunday in violation of rules. The jeep safari owners' association in a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanded strict action against the officers. Speaking to TOI, the president of the association, Nripen Nath, said that on January 15, a few government officials had been on a jeep safari inside the sanctuary. "There are clear instructions from the Forest Department to the safari operations that visitors should not be allowed to get off the vehicles inside the sanctuary and that they should not indulge in any unauthorised activity," Nath said. He said that while the officers did not get down from the vehicles inside the park, they did smoke and also tried to climb onto the bonnet of the vehicle. After the driver of a vehicle told the officer not to climb on to the bonnet, the officer verbally abused him. The officer whose name I don't know as of now also created a scene after coming out of the park. State PCCF Wildlife Mk Yadava refused to comment on the issue. An official of the Forest
