Aasu protests against power tariff hike in Dibrugarh

On Wednesday, members of the AASU (Assam State Students Union) marched through the streets of Dibrugarh to protest against the recent hike in power tariff from the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. (APDCL). The APDCL has decided to levy a fuel and power purchase price adjustment’ charge of 50 paisa per unit on all categories of consumers for the electricity bills of January, February, and March. At present, the APDCL has three categories of domestic consumers: one category of consumers up to 120 units is charged Rs. 530.75 paisa less subsidy under a government scheme per unit, the next category of consumers is charged Rs. 660 per unit, and the last category of consumers is charged Rs. 760 per unit. An amount of 50 paisa per unit will now be added to these three rates.
