BJP election team in UP to start work from next wk

The BJP election team, led by Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan, will start their poll work after September 20. A week back, the party had appointed Pradhan as the election incharge of UP along with seven co-incharges. The current focus of the party is to appoint booth committees. The work got momentum after BJP president JP Nadda inaugurated the Booth Vijay Abhiyan on Saturday. Party leaders hope that by next week booth-level appointments will be completed. “UP is a big state with almost 17 crore voting population. It needs more preparation,” Satya Kumar, BJP UP co-incharge, told ET. “The leaders who have been given responsibility have vast experience in electoral politics and election strategy and management.” The workers and leaders are also busy preparing for Sewa Samarpan Abhiyan to celebrate the birthday of PM Modi. There will be several programmes over the 21-day celebration starting from September 17 to October 7.“Due to Covid-19, the PM's birthday last year was a restricted affair. This time, we are working hard to make it a grand success and reach out to all sections,” Sanjeev Chaurasia, another UP co-incharge told ET.BJP leaders are meeting Pradhan in Delhi to discuss his state visit. On Saturday, Union home minister Amit Shah also visited Pradhan at his residence and discussed the UP plan with him. Sources told ET that Pradhan, along with the other new appointees, will travel to Lucknow in the last week of September and start with a meeting of the state party leaders. The BJP’s campaign for the 2022 assembly election in UP is quite different from the campaign in 2017. This time, the party has assigned major roles to different morchas. OBC Morcha, Kisan Morcha, SC/ST Morcha, Minority Morcha, all have been asked to organise meetings in each of the assembly constituencies for their target groups. As per sources, the campaign planning will be done based on the initial feedback from meetings by different morchas. BJP is playing hard to get a maximum of OBC and SC/ST votes which form the support base of two opposition parties –– SP and the BSP.
